It’s Legends Week.

Every year, on Arizona Sports, our own Doug & Wolf interview newsmakers around the Valley sports landscape from head coaches to general managers and owners; we call it Newsmakers Week.

This is a twist on that idea, but instead of current newsmakers, we threw it back to some of the biggest names in Valley sports history. From World Series heroes to executives and broadcasters, go down memory lane with guests who joined us all week.

Below is a list of all of those guests who joined Doug & Wolf‘s Legends Week so far this past week, ordered in reverse chronological order.

FRIDAY

Brandon Webb, former Diamondbacks pitcher

Webb was elite when he was healthy, but injuries derailed his career for good. He reflected on that time and what his wife thought of his MLB aspirations when they were first dating.

Paul Goldschmidt, former Diamondbacks first baseman

Goldschmidt reflected on the different managers he had with the Diamondbacks and why he’s not too concerned with his baseball legacy.

Majerle remembered draft night, when he unexpectedly went to the Suns and was booed by the fans. He went on to have a pretty good career anyway, averaging 11.4 points and 2.9 assists per game as a three-time All-Star and two-time All-Defensive player.

Randy Johnson, former Diamondbacks pitcher

Johnson joined Doug & Wolf and reflected on his lengthy career, one that saw him rack up strikeouts, win a World Series, throw a perfect game and hit a bird with a baseball.

Carson Palmer, former Cardinals quarterback

The first time Palmer spoke on the phone with then-Cardinals coach Bruce Arians, it was to get traded to the desert. But he could hear from the background noise that things were done a little differently in Arizona.

Keith Tkachuk, former Coyotes captain

Tkachuk was once a scoring threat for the Coyotes and led the league in goals, but now he watches from the stands as his two sons play in the NHL.

MONDAY

Tom Chambers, former Suns power forward

A four-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA selection, Chambers averaged 20.6 points per game in his 380 games in a Suns uniform. He joined Doug & Wolf to dish on his time in Phoenix and the league.

Eddie Johnson, former Suns small forward

Johnson is now an analyst on TV for Phoenix Suns broadcasts. But before that, he played in 1,199 NBA games, 222 of which were in Phoenix. The former Sixth Man of the Year talked about his favorite memory in the NBA, among other things.

Luis Gonzalez, former Diamondbacks outfielder

Gonzalez is known for his game-winning hit in the 2001 World Series, but long before his days with the Diamondbacks, he exaggerated the truth a little bit to earn playing time as a college player at South Alabama.

Anquan Boldin, former Cardinals wide receiver

A former AP Offensive Rookie of the Year, Boldin had 1,417 yards his rookie season and kept up elite production for much of his career. As a member of the Cardinals for seven seasons, Boldin was teammates with Larry Fitzgerald and explained why teammates were cautious to bet against the pair of receivers.

Larry Centers, former Cardinals fullback

Centers, who played for the Cardinals from 1990 to 1998, had nearly 9,000 career yards from scrimmage. The three-time Pro Bowler talked about his favorite moments with Arizona and what it was like to be a fullback in the NFL.
