Arizona State basketball has reportedly added a needed big with immediate eligibility to its roster.
According to Sun Devil Source, ASU earned the commitment of 6-foot-9 power forward/center Chris Osten, who most recently played at Lee College in Texas.
He averaged 11.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and one assist per game at Lee College.
Arizona State was in need of bigs, particularly after Romello White decided to enter the transfer portal. That left head coach Bobby Hurley late in the recruiting cycle trying to get players of size to balance out his roster.
“It was obviously not great timing in terms of Romello’s decision, but it’s always any guy’s prerogative to explore their options, and we appreciate everything that Mello did for our program over three years on the court,” Hurley told reporters on May 6. “And he’s graduated and I’ve done my job in that department. We wish him the best in finding what he’s looking for this year.”
Osten did not have a star rating from 247Sports and had no other Division I scholarship offers, Sun Devil Source wrote.
Next year, ASU will return 6-foot-9 Jalen Graham along with 6-foot-8 Kimani Lawrence and 6-foot-8 Taeshon Cherry.
