Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray had to correct something his teammate said.

Earlier this week, Cardinals offensive lineman D.J. Humphries told media that Murray was naming his new dog after Humphries.

“I found out the other day that he named his dog after me,” Humphries said. “So he really cares about me.”

“He told me that he was going to choose between Hump Jr., Little D.J. or Sen-fo (editor’s note: spelling not given). Sen-fo is like, it’s a short abbreviated southern way to say seventy-four. So Senfo — that was my No. 1 suggestion. But we’re waiting to see.”

Murray said Wednesday that is not the case.

“No. My dog’s name is Swoosh,” Murray said. “[Humphries] gave me some recommendations. But I didn’t take those at all. I don’t know why he came on here and told y’all I was naming my dog after him.”

Maybe Murray naming his dog after Humphries would have improved rapport. It’s common practice for QBs to keep their offensive linemen happy, since they do a lot of protecting for what is often a very well-paid player.

Late last year, a round-up of gifts from quarterbacks to offensive linemen done by USA Today included Yeti coolers, barbecue grills, televisions, scooters and Rolex watches. Murray gave Phat Scooters to his offensive line teammates.

Naming your dog after an O-lineman would be a nice gesture, too.
