Major League Baseball is reportedly closing down its spring training locations in Arizona following players and staff members testing positive for coronavirus.
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, all Arizona and Florida spring training sites are to close for deep cleaning.
Players and staff members will not be permitted back inside the facilities until they pass a COVID-19 test.
The closures take place immediately, Nightengale added.
A total of 15 MLB teams use Arizona’s spring training facilities.
Earlier Friday, the Philadelphia Phillies announced that five players and three staff members tested positive for the virus. The people infected had been at the Phillies’ facility in Clearwater, Fla., which was shut down soon after the test results were known.
It was also reported that a Houston Astros player tested positive for COVID-19.
In addition, the San Francisco Giants and Toronto Blue Jays announced the closures of their facilities ahead of the report.
The Giants’ Scottsdale location was shut down after one person who had been to the stadium and one family member exhibited symptoms Thursday.
The Blue Jays closed after a player showed symptoms consistent with the virus.
The Texas Rangers did not have a reported case, but shuttered their doors in advance.
