Phoenix Rising FC will continue its 2020 season by playing 15 more games after getting one in before coronavirus suspended play in March.
Phoenix Rising’s season-opener on March 7, a 6-1 victory over Portland Timbers 2 FC, is included in its season results.
The USL Championship announced Wednesday a format that aims to limit travel during the regular season, which will lead in to a regionalized single-elimination playoff that includes 16 teams.
During the regular season, Phoenix Rising FC will join one of eight regionalized groups. Five groups will include four teams and three will include five teams.
Each team’s schedule will include 12 games against its group members. Four other games will be played against teams in the same geographic area to limit the need for travel.
The two teams atop each of the eight regions will advance to the 16-team playoff format.
The USL set a provisional resumption date for July 11 and expects the regular season to conclude on the weekend of October 2-4.
