Grand Canyon University’s men’s basketball team is quarantining after six positive COVID-19 tests, the school announced Wednesday.

Four members of the team and two student staff members tested positive. The team began holding voluntary workouts in the past week, but not before a 72-hour quarantine period for physicals and results of testing. Once those six positive tests came in, the quarantine began.

The full team of 16 individuals, with 14 of them being players and two student managers, is quarantining in a designated residence hall for two weeks. The two additional staffers who tested positive will quarantine at home.

All four of the players who tested positive were asymptomatic, and all the other team members who tested negative will be tested again.

The university has sanitized all the locations that were under use by the team.

GCU heads into its first season under new head coach Bryce Drew after the program fired head coach Dan Majerle.
