The USL announced Thursday the arrangement of regional groups that will make up the return-to-play format.
Phoenix Rising FC will be grouped in Group B with LA Galaxy II, Las Vegas Lights FC, Orange County SC and San Diego Loyal SC.
The league announced Wednesday that the return-to-play format will include dividing teams into eight regional groups to complete a 16-game regular season. The regular season games will be played over 13 weeks, ending in October. Because some teams completed one or multiple games before the season stopped in March, USL teams will play between 14 to 16 games to complete their season the rest of the way.
Every team will play 12 games within its regional group. The remaining four games will be played against teams in a similar geographic area.
Of the four other teams in Phoenix’s regional group, Orange County had the best record in 2019, going 15-10-9 for 54 points and fifth place in the Western Conference. LA Galaxy II finished ninth in the conference, and Las Vegas finished 13th. San Diego is new to the USL this season.
The USL already announced that it intends to resume play on July 11.
