Cardinals cut rookie wide receiver Jermiah Braswell after arrest

Jun 30, 2020, 3:17 PM

The Arizona Cardinals have cut undrafted rookie receiver Jermiah Braswell after he was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence for driving his car into Lake Erie on Saturday.

Braswell appeared as waived on NFL transaction logs Monday and was removed from the team website’s roster on Tuesday.

The Youngstown State product was found by Put-in-Bay, Ohio, around 6:30 p.m. Saturday while trying to drive forward in his Camaro. He told officers he was stuck and did not know what happened, according to police.

Braswell’s speech was slurred, according to police, and he couldn’t explain how the car got into the water.

His blood alcohol content exceeded Ohio’s 0.08% limit, police said.

Nobody else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash and no others were injured.

Prior to joining the Cardinals in May, Braswell played at Youngstown State, securing 11 touchdowns with 986 yards in 40 games played across four seasons at the school.

He was a longshot to make Arizona’s roster with seven players who were draft picks or have NFL experience ahead of him in the pecking order, plus six other first- or second-year receivers on the current roster.
