The Arizona Diamondbacks will open at the San Diego Padres for the second year in a row as they’ll play at Petco Park to start their 2021 season.

The team announced its 2021 schedule on Thursday in the same week that the 2020 schedule was also announced. The 2020 schedule had been revised to a shortened format because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Starting with a four-game series at the Padres that begins on Thursday, April 1, 2021, Arizona will get a day off the following Monday before playing three games in Colorado. Then, the D-backs come back home for a home opener against the Cincinnati Reds on Friday, April 9.

In interleague play, the D-backs will host the A’s (April 12-13), Angels (June 11-13) and Mariners (Sept. 3-5). Arizona will visit Oakland (June 8-9), Texas (July 27-28) and Houston (Sept. 19). Likewise, the D-backs’ interleague games in 2020 are also against the American League West, making it two straight years that Arizona faces teams from that division.

Arizona only has nine home games in the month of April. The rival Los Angeles Dodgers won’t visit Chase Field for the first time in 2021 until July 18. All three home series against the Dodgers in 2021 are on weekends.
