Arizona State and Herm Edwards got more good news this week on the recruiting trail with a commitment from 2021 four-star wide receiver Junior Alexander.
Alexander spoke with 247Sports on his decision to commit to a school he hadn’t physically visited yet.
The recent history with the WRs speaks for itself. I love the whole African-American coaching staff. During these times, I think that’s very important. Me and Coach P (ASU wideouts coach Prentice Gill) have a close and genuine relationship.
I knew it was the place for me back in March, after doing all these virtual visits with them and getting to know the coaches even more.
247Sports ranks Alexander as the No. 33 wide receiver in the 2021 class.
Alexander committing follows the news on Wednesday of four-star 2021 athlete Tommi Hill also going with the maroon and gold.
At wideout, the Sun Devils had back-to-back first-round picks in the NFL Draft the past two years, with N’Keal Harry and Brandon Aiyuk.
ASU lost Aiyuk from this past season, but has Frank Darby returning for his senior season after catching 31 balls for 616 yards and eight touchdowns. With Kyle Williams graduating, Darby is the only wideout returning who caught more than 10 passes last season.
Luckily, Edwards’ incoming 2020 class has three four-star wide receivers in Johnny Wilson, Chad Johnson Jr. and LV Bunkley-Shelton. Athlete Elijhah Badger, also a four-star recruit, primarily played wideout in high school.
Sophomore Geordon Porter has some potential as well at 6-foot-2 with 4.3 40-yard dash speed. He had eight catches last year as a freshman.
With non-conference games out of the picture for Pac-12 football this year, Arizona State kicks off the 2020 season against USC on Sept. 26.
