Arizona Diamondbacks announce 2020 Opening Day roster

The Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday announced their 30-man active roster that they’ll take into Opening Day, which for them is on Friday at the San Diego Padres.
In two weeks, the roster limit will decrease to 28 players, and after another two weeks, it will go down to 26. These special rules were put in place for the shortened 60-game season that was caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The active roster limit was increased from 25 to 26 even before the pandemic, though.
There weren’t any major surprises on the roster, and some of the inclusions had been announced days in advance.
The taxi squad, a three-player unit that travels with the team in case an active player goes down with COVID-19, includes catcher John Hicks, pitcher Joe Manitply and utility player Wyatt Mathisen.
