Arizona State football earned a commitment from four-star cornerback Isaiah Johnson late Monday night, making him the team’s 19th and top-ranked member of the 2021 recruiting class.
The Sun Devils won the recruiting battle over a final five that also included Georgia, USC, Oklahoma and LSU.
Johnson made his decision with a high-production video posted to Twitter and told 247 Sports that he revealed the choice to his mother while out to dinner on her birthday.
The No. 6 defensive back in the 2021 recruiting class, Johnson is ranked by 247’s composite as the 78th-best player in the country.
ASU’s 19-man class for 2021 bumped to 24th nationally with his decision, according to 247 Sports.
Johnson credited new Sun Devil defensive backs coach Chris Hawkins for luring him to Tempe.
“We relate in many ways, like with our backgrounds,” Johnson told 247 Sports. “We just click. I feel like we could be really close. Somebody I could relate to. I know we are going to get along. The fact that he is young, I feel like we have one of the best relationships out of the whole process.”
Johnson also expressed the desire to work with head coach Herm Edwards, a former NFL defensive back, as well as co-defensive coordinator Antonio Pierce.
