The Arizona Diamondbacks got a much-needed jolt of momentum on Wednesday with a 14-run offensive explosion.
They continued that the following day on Thursday with a walk-off 5-4 win over the Houston Astros, giving Arizona its first series win of the season.
With the D-backs down one run entering the bottom of the ninth, Andy Young walked to start the inning before Nick Ahmed singled.
Ketel Marte made it another single after that, and despite the speedy Tim Locastro running for Young, he couldn’t score from second because Marte hit the ball on a line to left.
That brought up Kole Calhoun with the bases loaded and nobody out. Calhoun waited for his pitch, taking on a real close 1-2 curveball from Astros reliever Ryan Pressly.
The next pitch he smacked to right field, down the corner and through for a two-RBI single to win the game.
