Phoenix Suns guard Jevon Carter lived up to his nickname of ‘bulldog’ in his first season with the team and was awarded with the 2020 Dan Majerle Hustle Award for his efforts.

Named after Suns Ring of Honor member Dan Majerle, the award honors players who compete with the same hustle and determination that Majerle did in his eight seasons with the team.

Suns players, coaches, employees, fans and Majerle himself vote for the winner of the annual award that started in 2003.

Carter received the news in a video from Majerle prior to the team’s 128-102 win against the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday.

While not known for his offensive output, averaging 4.2 points per game in 57 games (starting two), it was his defense that solidified his spot on the team.

Carter’s performance on the court in the NBA bubble also aided the team’s improbable 8-0 record, including a 20 point performance in a 119-112 victory against the Miami Heat.

He and Kyle Korver were acquired in offseason from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Josh Jackson (who won the award in 2018), De’Anthony Melton and a second round draft pick in 2020 and 2021.

Mikal Bridges won the award last season, while P.J. Tucker was honored four times during his time with the Suns.
