GLENDALE, Ariz. — Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins was held out of Arizona Cardinals practices on Sunday and Monday with a tight left hamstring, head coach Kliff Kingsbury said.

Hopkins was present and on the field Sunday as his teammates went through the second practice that included offense-versus-defense work.

“Hop has a bit of left hamstring tightness, (and the decision to hold him out was) more precautionary,” Kingsbury said over a Zoom call Sunday. “He wasn’t out there for the start of practice.”

Kingsbury said Monday that he expects Hopkins to be back soon.

Last season for the Houston Texans, Hopkins was tied for third in the NFL with 104 receptions. He had 1,165 receiving yards and seven touchdowns before being traded to Arizona in exchange for running back David Johnson. The teams also exchanged draft picks in the deal.

With no preseason games and practice schedules that include six days of work, the Cardinals are approaching all injuries with seriousness with just 28 days between Sunday and the season opener on the road against the San Francisco 49ers.

Arizona will put on the pads for the first time on Monday. However, Kingsbury said there will be no live hitting and players will not be permitted to take others to the ground.
