The Arizona Cardinals finally got their number two receiver.
The team selected Notre Dame receiver Michael Floyd with its
first-round pick Thursday, adding a dynamic threat who will
play opposite Larry Fitzgerald.
“I was excited when I got the call, and saw that 602-number
coming in,” Floyd said Thursday night during a media conference
call. “I wanted to jump for joy, but I kept it calm.”
A 6-foot-3, 224 pounder, Floyd hauled in 100 receptions for
1,147 yards and nine touchdowns as a senior, and tallied 271
catches for 3,686 yards and 37 touchdowns over his four
years in South Bend.
With Floyd in the fold, the Cardinals have two potent receivers for
opposing defenses to deal with. Fitzgerald went to bat with team
officials for Floyd, and the rookie can’t wait to get started learning
from the NFL’s best.
“He’s one of the best receivers in the game,” he said. “When I get
down there, I’ll be able to learn from one of the best.”
