After the Arizona Diamondbacks rode a wave of strong offensive play for two weeks, they have produced two runs in two games against the Oakland Athletics.
Thursday night was a 5-1 loss to the A’s, the second straight game the D-backs managed only one run off six hits and two walks.
“We couldn’t really get anything going offensively,” manager Torey Lovullo said after the game.
Eduardo Escobar’s solo home run in the top of the fifth produced the lone run.
Ketel Marte’s leadoff double in the fourth and two singles from Marte and David Peralta in the sixth were the only two times a D-backs baserunner was in scoring position.
Alex Young started for the D-backs, and was mostly fine. The left-hander allowed an absolute bomb to Athletics third baseman Matt Chapman in the first, a solo shot.
A homer by the other Athletics Matt, first baseman Matt Olson, scored two runs in the fourth.
Young went 4.0 innings, allowing four hits and one walk on three earned runs.
Reliever Yoan Lopez was responsible for the other two Oakland runs that came in the eighth inning.
