The top-ranked center in the 2021 class, Ezra Dotson-Oyetade, has committed to Arizona State, the recruit announced on Twitter on Monday.
247Sports ranks him as a four-star prospect and their composite rankings have him as a three-star and the No. 7 center in the country. The recruiting site also had him as the 42nd-ranked player in the state of Texas.
Dotson-Oyetade plays for Lakeview Centennial High School in Texas.
He told 247Sports that ASU having Kevin Mawae — an eight-time NFL Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro selection — as an offensive analyst was helpful in the decision.
“It’s a great opportunity,” Dotson-Oyetade said. “Being coached by a Hall of Fame center, I can’t wait to see how far we go. I believe I can get better in a lot of areas and once I do I believe we can do some great things.”
“I’ve been feeling ASU for a minute, really the relationships put them ahead of the other schools.”
Some of the other schools Dotson-Oyetade had offers from included Memphis, Houston, San Diego State, UCF and Washington State.
Given that the Pac-12 plans to not have fall sports and the fact that the NCAA was considering giving a free year of eligibility to students impacted by COVID-19-related cancellations, it’s unclear how ASU’s roster cycle will shake out. If veteran offensive linemen who would have played in 2020 end up playing in 2021, it could impact the forecast for Dotson-Oyetade’s playing time.
