Twitter teases ‘live’ NAU vs. ASU football opener, fans get sad
This felt like a usual Thursday during a pandemic, if usual and pandemic can be within the same sentence at all.
But if you’d have asked any Arizonan back in February what Thursday was supposed to be, they would have pointed out that it was so much more.
Thursday was set to be the start of the college football season for the Arizona State Sun Devils and Northern Arizona Lumberjacks.
Arizona State was scheduled to host NAU at Sun Devil Stadium. That was before coronavirus hit, before the Pac-12 restructured its 2020 football season to include only intra-conference games and before the league then postponed the fall season through at least the calendar year.
Many of us woke up Thursday not thinking about it, opting for ignorance to remain blissful.
So thanks, Twitter, for reminding us all on Thursday that what was supposed to be a joyous occasion is just another weekday during a pandemic.
On the application’s “What’s happening” sidebar, Twitter listed the “Lumberjacks vs. Sun Devils” NCAA football game as a live moment.
Sources at Sun Devil Stadium confirm that there is no game taking place.
Twitter: Here, come watch live football right now. It's #NAZvsASU and it's on right now.
