The Miami Dolphins have released former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Josh Rosen, according to multiple reports.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Dolphins attempted to trade Rosen in the last week before roster cuts and were unable to find the right deal.

The Cardinals traded up in the 2018 NFL Draft to select Rosen 10th overall, but after one season and landing the No. 1 pick in next year’s draft, they picked Kyler Murray and traded Rosen to the Dolphins. In return, the Cardinals got a second-round pick used on wide receiver Andy Isabella and a 2020 fifth-round pick Arizona sent back to Miami in the Kenyan Drake acquisition.

After the Dolphins started the 2019 season 0-2 in Ryan Fitzpatrick’s first two starts, the Dolphins turned to Rosen, who underwhelmed. To be fair to Rosen, as a point differential of 92 in that first pair of games would indicate, the situation in Miami was arguably worse than Arizona’s.

After three starts for Rosen, Miami went back to Fitzpatrick midway through the season. Rosen completed 53.2% of his passes for 567 yards, one touchdown and five interceptions.

For the second straight season, Rosen had his team look past him as the long-term option, and the Dolphins selected Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa No. 5 in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Rosen’s four-year contract had two years remaining and will have the Dolphins take a cap hit of $2.1 million in 2020 and $3.0 million the next year.
