After adding some new cornerback depth pieces in wake of the Robert Alford injury, the Arizona Cardinals have thinned out the room.

On Saturday, the Cardinals announced they waived cornerbacks Chris Jones, Jace Whittaker and Ken Crawley.

The Cardinals hope to sign Whittaker to the practice squad, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

As of the 1 p.m. cuts on Saturday, the roster is down to four cornerbacks.

Jones played 13 games for the Cardinals over 2018 and 19, starting three games last year. Over this past season he had 22 tackles and six passes defended.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero said there’s a “decent shot” that a team claims Jones off the waiver wire.

Whittaker had a strong camp and earned praise from teammates, but the undrafted free agent out of Arizona was unable to make the cut.

Crawley was signed by the Cardinals on Aug. 21, the same day the team placed Robert Alford on the injured reserve with a chest injury.

The Cardinals have now cut six cornerbacks in a little over a week.

B.W. Webb, who also signed with Arizona on Aug. 21, was cut on Aug 27. The Cardinals cut Zane Lewis, an undrafted free agent, on Sunday, and then on Monday released Jalen Davis, who had played two games for them last season.

The cornerback room now consists of Patrick Peterson, Byron Murphy Jr. and Kevin Peterson, all of whom return from last year’s roster, and Dre Kirkpatrick, who signed with the team on Aug. 23.
