The Phoenix Mercury added to their roster Monday as the team looks to improve its playoff positioning.
Phoenix announced it has signed forward Alisia Jenkins to a rest-of-the-season contract after receiving a hardship exemption from the WNBA.
The 6-foot-1 forward is available to join the team for Monday’s game against the Connecticut Sun having played with both the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky in the WNBA Bubble this season.
Jenkins has appeared in three games this season. She has yet to record a basket as a rookie in the WNBA, but overseas, the forward averaged 22.4 points and 12.3 rebounds per game in her most recent stint in Hungary. She was also named All-Hungarian League Defensive Player of the Year. Before her time in Hungary, Jenkins also played in Spain, Prague and Australia.
Jenkins played her college ball at University of South Florida. She finished her collegiate career as the school’s leading rebounder and was third in blocks.
The signing comes after the team lost guard Bria Hartley for the season due to a torn ACL suffered Aug. 28. The team has also had to navigate the season in the bubble without All-Star center Brittney Griner, who left due to personal reasons on Aug. 22.
Despite the latest roster woes, the Mercury have strung together six straight wins.
