DeAndre Hopkins is closing in on a contract extension — one that was self-negotiated — with the Arizona Cardinals, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Monday.

The news comes after Los Angeles Chargers wideout Keenan Allen signed a four-year, $80 million deal over the weekend to make him the second-best paid receiver, behind the Atlanta Falcons’ Julio Jones, in terms of annual average value.

The Cardinals traded for Hopkins this offseason by sending running back David Johnson to the Texans, unloading his contract that includes a base salary of $10.2 million in 2020. Johnson is due a base salary of $8 million more in 2021.

Arizona also included a 2021 fourth-round pick and their second-round selection (40th overall) this year, which Houston used to draft DT Ross Blacklock.

Along with acquiring the 6-foot-1, 212-pound Hopkins in the trade with the Texans, Arizona received a 2020 fourth-round pick (131st overall). The Cardinals selected LSU defensive tackle Rashard Lawrence with that pick.

Hopkins is a four-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro.

He caught 104 balls for 1,165 yards and seven touchdowns last season. Hopkins has 632 catches for 8,602 yards and 54 touchdowns in 110 games played.
