PHOENIX – The Arizona Diamondbacks announced they have acquired left-handed pitcher Zach Duke from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for a player to be named later.
Duke has been with the Pirates for all five of his Major League seasons after being drafted in the 20th round of the 2001 MLB draft by Pittsburgh. Duke was a member of the 2009 NL All-Star team, winning a career-high 11 games that year and tying for third in the NL with three complete games.
Duke has a 45-70 overall record with a 4.54 ERA, and 505 strikeouts. During his rookie season in 2005 he received Rookie of the Month honors twice and also led NL rookies with a 1.81 ERA.
The acquisition puts the Diamondbacks at a full 40-man roster.
