Gibson looks to change Diamondbacks culture

It’s amazing how seven letters can change things drastically. Just ask Kirk Gibson. Over the Arizona Diamondbacks offseason he lost the word interim from his title and became the official manager of the team. Losing those seven letters put the pressure of turning around the franchise squarely on his shoulders. The former big leaguer relishes the challenge.

Gibson, as a guest on Sports 620 KTAR’s Doug and Wolf show Thursday morning, said he’s ready to embrace the difficult task ahead of him.

“We certainly want to change the culture of how we think about ourselves and what we’re going to defend,” the manager said. “It’s ultimately my job to change that thought process and for us to be able to execute and compete.”

The 17-year Major League veteran is no stranger to challenging tasks. He played in 1,259 games, including two World Series as a member of the Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Dodgers.
