How long until the Arizona Diamondbacks are good?

“That is not a good big league club.”

That was the assessment of the Arizona Diamondbacks offered up by ESPN’s Keith Law as a guest on with Sports 620 KTAR’s Doug and Wolf Monday.

It’s a point of view that D-backs manager Kirk Gibson is aware exists and one that he doesn’t seem to completely disagree with.

“It’s just disappointing,” the manager said. “We didn’t play well. There’s no way to sugar coat it. I know we’re capable of playing much better.”

Just because they didn’t play well this spring doesn’t mean Gibson thinks this team can’t get better. He just isn’t sure how long it may take for them to start playing baseball at a high level.

“It’s a process,” he said. “I don’t know whether it’s going to take a day, a year or five years. As long as we’re here we’re going to keep cruising towards it. You can’t quit. I know there is negativity around and people see where we’re going but that’s society in general. I just refuse to be that way.”
