Matt Williams says young talent is on the way

Apr 7, 2011, 6:47 PM | Updated: 7:59 pm

Matt Williams wants to be a manager.

“I’d love to manage a ballclub,” he told Rantsports.com in Chicago. “At some point I’d like to get the opportunity to manage a club and see what we can do.”

As of now, that opportunity will not come anytime soon with the Diamondbacks. Kirk Gibson is in his first full season as the team’s skipper, and his coaching staff is pretty well set. But Williams, the team’s third-base coach (when he recovers from a broken foot), seems to be in no rush to take the reins, as he knows this team’s best days are likely a couple years down the road.
