Ian Kennedy pitches like an ace in win over Reds

Ian Kennedy threw like an ace on Friday night in the Arizona Diamondbacks’ home opener.

The right-hander went eight innings giving up six hits and an earned run in the Diamondbacks 13-2 win. He struck out nine Cincinnati Reds.

The nine strike outs are tied for the second highest total for Kennedy as a Diamondback.

“Outstanding performance, he was well prepared [and] executed well,” D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said. “You have to against that team.”

Kennedy put the Reds down in order in three of the innings.

Building off an Opening Day outing in Colorado where he went six innings giving up three runs. He got the no-decision in the D-backs extra inning win.

His ERA goes down to 2.57 on the young season.

The Diamondbacks came into the spring without a sure ace and although it is definitely early in the season one can start to see manager Kirk Gibson made the right call in giving Kennedy the ball first.

Kennedy’s record now sits at 1-0, the Diamondbacks are 3-3.
