The Arizona Coyotes and Hill Hockey announced Tuesday that a new rink in Mesa will be named the Coyotes Community Ice Center.

Opening to the public in mid-October, the 36,000 square foot building will serve as a training facility and home arena for the Arizona Kachinas girls and women’s hockey program.

“We are excited to name this beautiful new facility the Coyotes Community Ice Center,” Coyotes President & CEO Xavier Gutierrez said in a press release.

“Girls hockey continues to grow exponentially in Arizona and we are proud to lead the nation in girls hockey growth over the past five years amongst NHL markets. The Coyotes are committed to the community, building fandom and providing fans of all ages, race, sex and ethnicity with the opportunity to play the great game of hockey.”

The club first announced the project and partnership with Hill Hockey back in August.

“Female hockey players across Arizona now have a place to call their own and I am so proud that the Kachinas will have a home where they are the number one priority,” President of the Arizona Kachinas Hockey Association and former U.S. Olympian Lyndsey Fry said in a past press release.

The Coyotes Community Ice Center will be the ninth rink in Arizona, but first to focus on girls and women’s hockey.

It will feature a full-sized NHL ice sheet, as well as housing a meeting room, skate rental area, concessions bar and a skating treadmill.

The Coyotes have a history of partnering with multiple rinks across the Valley to promote and foster youth and amateur hockey programs.
