The ASU football team’s postseason fate is crystalizing before the team steps foot on the gridiron for the first time in 2020.
The Sun Devils have been pegged as a possible competitor in the Alamo and Holiday bowls, playing teams from the ACC and Big 12, respectively.
The Athletic’s Stewart Mandel and Jerry Palm of CBS Sports are in agreement that Herm Edwards and company will head to the Longhorn State, playing in the Alamo Bowl on New Year’s Eve.
Mandel has ASU playing Oklahoma State in the contest, while Palm believes the Sun Devils will square off against former Perry High School standout Brock Purdy and the Iowa State Cyclones in San Antonio.
USA Today’s Erick Smith believes the Sun Devils will make the much shorter commute to San Diego, playing against the North Carolina Tar Heels in the contest.
That’s assuming the 2020 Holiday Bowl happens, since its longstanding venue, SDCCU Stadium, is being torn down and replaced.
The San Diego Union-Tribune says the 2020 contest will remain in the Choice City, either being held at the University of San Diego’s Torero Stadium or at Mesa College.
Either way, college football columnists believe ASU is set to play a Power Five opponent in a nearby metropolis this bowl season.
