The Arizona Coyotes hired former Tampa Bay Lightning assistant director of amateur scouting Darryl Plandowski as their director of amateur scouting on Thursday.

Plandowski, who spent 12 years with the 2020 Stanley Cup champions, is the latest front office addition for first-year GM Bill Armstrong.

Armstrong described the Coyotes’ decision to add Plandowski as a no-brainer for the team in a press release.

“We are very pleased to add another Stanley Cup Champion to our organization,” Armstrong said in the team’s release.

“Darryl is an excellent talent evaluator and his fingerprints are all over the Tampa Bay Lightning roster. We are thrilled to have him lead our amateur scouting department.”

Plandowski was named the Lightning’s assistant director of amateur scouting in 2019. He previously served as the team’s head amateur scout for 11 years.

He also served as an amateur scout with the Buffalo Sabres from 1998-2006, the Pittsburgh Penguins from 2006-08 and as a scout and assistant coach for the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League from 1992-94.

Plandowski played college hockey at Northern Michigan University from 1987-91.
