After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the
box score and provide you with instant analysis. So it’s
time to go Inside the Box for April 20, 2011: Diamondbacks 3,
Reds 1
The Arizona Diamondbacks have started their six-game road trip winning the first two games against the Cincinnati Reds getting back to .500 (8-8) in the process.
Ian Kennedy turned in a solid start going 5 & 1/3 innings only giving up one run.
Even more impressive, the group of Juan Gutierrez, Sam Demel, David Hernandez and J.J. Putz relieved Kennedy and shut down the Reds’ offense for the rest of the game preserving the D-backs’ win.
It’s a far reversal from last season where you expected the D-backs’ bullpen to come in and give up the lead.
Now the feeling is we expect the bullpen to close the game out.
Offensively, Ryan Roberts hit an RBI double in the seventh inning to extend his hitting streak to seven games.
No way the team sends him back to Triple-A when Geoff Blum is ready to come off the Disabled List.
