Gibson shuffles lineup because he’s ‘got 13 starters’

Apr 22, 2011, 7:43 PM | Updated: 9:35 pm

Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said he thinks he has 13 potential starters with which to fill his lineup card for every game.

Since starting three different players at first base in the first three games, Gibson has continued to shuffle his roster to get the most out of each match-up.

Gibson joined Sports 620 KTAR’s Doug and Wolf show Friday to discuss his newfound depth and how he appreciates that each player is fighting for a starting spot.

“I think I’ve got 13 starters to be honest with you,” Gibson said.

“I think I’ve got a good ball club. They are very versatile and I get a lot of flack from these guys that aren’t playing every day and I love it. They come and give it to me and I give it right back to them.”

Gibson said Willie Bloomquist spoke his mind in front of the locker room Thursday after he saw he wasn’t in the starting lineup.
