After suffering a strained right hamstring injury, the Arizona Diamondbacks have placed infielder Willie Bloomquist on the 15-day disabled list. The club has selected infielder Josh Wilson’s contract from Triple-A Reno.
Bloomquist was off to a hot start this season, posting a .306 batting average with 11 runs scored, a home run and seven RBI in 14 games with the D-backs.
“It’s one of those things if you push it, it has a chance to get significantly worse,” Bloomquist said. “My goal now is to get ready as soon as I can and be ready as soon as the disabled time is up.”
He stole seven bases so far and is ranked sixth in the National League with that total.
This will be Wilson’s second stint with the D-backs after he saw action with the club in 11 games in the 2009 season. Over 16 games with the Aces, Wilson hit .351 average with 11 runs scored, a home run and 12 RBI.
Over the course of four Major League seasons with six teams, he hit .227 with 71 runs scored, seven home runs and 62 RBI.
Wilson’s addition gives the D-backs 39 players on their 40-man roster.
