Kennedy on if he sees himself as D-backs ace: ‘No’

May 12, 2011, 5:41 PM | Updated: 6:48 pm

When spring training started the Arizona Diamondbacks were without an ace for their starting rotation.

Spring training has come and gone and six weeks into the season the Diamondbacks are still without an ace.

At least, that’s the case if you ask who would presumably be their ace. After all, Ian Kennedy is the guy that took the mound on Opening Day for the D-backs in their win over the Colorado Rockies. He is the guy that leads the team in wins (tied with Daniel Hudson and Armando Galarraga), ERA, WHIP and strikeouts through Wednesday’s games.

Thursday morning on Sports 620 KTAR’s Doug & Wolf Show Kennedy was asked if he looked at himself as an ace.

After a pause Kennedy answered “no” and then chuckled.

Just two nights ago Kennedy went toe to toe with San Francisco Giants ace and former Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum.
