Inside the Box: D-backs lose by one run…again

After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the
box score and provide you with instant analysis. So it’s
time to go Inside the Box for May 13, 2011: Dodgers 4, Diamondbacks 3

The Arizona Diamondbacks ninth inning rally fell short as they lost 4-3 to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

It was the fifth straight game that the D-backs lost by one run. It’s a testament to the team that they are battling and in every game, but they still can’t quite find a way to get over the hump.

Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw was dominant only allowing three hits and no runs in his seven innings of work. He struck out 11 D-back hitters along the way.

Arizona didn’t sniff any production until the Dodgers mercilessly took Kershaw out of the game.

Chris Young had a nice game for Arizona getting three hits. He’s been struggling this season and if the D-backs are to gain any ground in the division, they’ll need Young to get it going.

Arizona starter Joe Saunders pitched well going six and 2/3 innings giving up three earned runs.

However, he tired down the stretch and wasn’t helped by the D-backs defense who committed an error to allow a run to score.

Arizona at 15-22 and in a five-game losing streak will look to turn things around against the Dodgers tomorrow.
