Chase Edmonds gets Cardinals RBs going with explosive TD run vs. Jets

The productiveness of the Arizona Cardinals’ rushing attack was skewed by quarterback Kyler Murray’s ground success in the first four games of the year.

Chase Edmonds had a single 20-yard run in the season opener. Kenyan Drake hadn’t gained more than 16 yards on a single carry.

Arizona came out Sunday against the New York Jets putting the emphasis on getting its running backs going, and it paid off on the second series of the game when Edmonds busted loose for a 29-yard touchdown.

The longest rush by a running back in the first four-plus games of the season put the Cardinals ahead, 7-0.

It capped a strong drive for Arizona after it had traded three-and-outs with New York to start the Week 5 game at MetLife Stadium.

The Cardinals found a rhythm behind their running game, something that head coach Kliff Kingsbury had been looking for after consecutive losses to the Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers.

En route to Edmonds’ run, Murray had a pair of completions to Christian Kirk and a quarterback sneak for 16 yards. And midway through the Cardinals’ third series, the quarterback had connected in the passing game with Kirk, Edmonds, Larry Fitzgerald, DeAndre Hopkins, Andy Isabella and tight end Darrell Daniels.

All after the Cardinals put an emphasis on getting the ground attack in gear.
