Cardinals outside linebacker Chandler Jones walked to the locker room with a right biceps injury in the second quarter of Arizona’s road game against the New York Jets.
The Cardinals said Jones will not return.
FOX TV cameras caught Jones pushing against tackle Jordan Phillips on the sidelines to test his arm before grabbing at it in pain and sitting on the bench. He would then go to the locker room.
Jones had posted a tackle on Sunday at MetLife Stadium before he left the game.
His departure put the Cardinals down both their starting outside linebackers after Devon Kennard stayed in Arizona with a calf injury. Haason Reddick and Kylie Fitts will continue to see more snaps.
Backup Dennis Gardeck, a special teams captain, recorded a sack on the first series of the first drive after Jones left the game.
Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph could also use more personnel groupings with No. 8 pick Isaiah Simmons, who already had played in his role as the third inside linebacker capable of rushing the passer or dropping into coverage.
Jones has put together a quiet 2020 season thus far with 10 tackles, a single sack and a fumble recovery heading into the Sunday game against the Jets.
