Sometimes there are occurrences in sports where you can be fairly positive it’s never been seen before.

Something that’s happening in the National League Championship Series between the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers is one of them.

On Monday night, Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies hit a 420-foot homer to left-center towards the Braves bullpen. Braves closer Mark Melancon was warming up, heard the commotion, looked up and caught the ball.

On replay, it was even more casual than you could possibly imagine. Melancon had to take only one step back from the mound to field the ball. It was literally hit right at him.

Before Melancon even makes the catch, FOX play-by-play man Joe Buck can be heard saying, “Come on. Are you kidding me?” It was that ridiculous.

Well, how’s two nights in a row for not only Melancon to catch a homer, but to do it in the ninth inning while he was warming up AND it was hit by Albies?

Yes, way.

This time on Tuesday, Melancon was locked in and waiting for his opportunity. He made sure to track this one down.

If it happens a third time we need to stop calling it a coincidence and start conducting an investigation.
