After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the
box score and provide you with instant analysis. So it’s
time to go Inside the Box for April 27, 2011: Diamondbacks 6, Rockies 3
The Good:
It sure was catcher Miguel Montero’s night. His three-run homer to right brought in three runs for the D-backs. Montero is now hitting .268 on the year. He also made a great spinning throw to first in the bottom of the sixth that should hit ESPN SportsCenter’s Top 10.
The Bad:
Reliever Esmerling Vasquez almost gave up the game in the seventh. After two walks and a hit, Vasquez faced a bases-loaded situation against slugger Jason Giambi, who flew out to bring in one. Ryan Spilborghs, the following batter, singled to center to score on and put a runner on third. Vasquez got out of it thanks to a groundball hit by Jonathan Herrera.
The Funky:
Thanks to Thursday’s win, the D-backs have won five of eight series this month. They are currently two games over .500 and 1.5 games out of first in the NL West.
