After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the
box score and provide you with instant analysis. So it’s
time to go Inside the Box for May 27, 2011: Diamondbacks 7, Astros 6
Don’t ever count out these Diamondbacks. Trailing 6-0 against the Houston Astros, Arizona simply buckled down and rallied all the way back for an amazing 7-6 comeback win.
The D-backs have now won 12 out of their last 14 games and are gaining confidence by the game.
Juan Miranda got the comeback started by hitting two 2-run homers in the fifth and sixth inning.
The game turned in the seventh inning though when a slow grounder hit by Chris Young caused a play at the plate where Ryan Roberts ran over the catcher and scored allowing the go-ahead run to also score after the ball got away from the catcher.
It was the typical play that has come to epitomize Roberts.
Starter Daniel Hudson didn’t have his best stuff and struggled allowing six runs, five earned, in six innings of work.
However, like they have almost all season, the bullpen came in and shut the door.
After Arizona got the lead, the trio of Kam Mickolio, David Hernandez and J.J. Putz closed out the game.
Putz is now a perfect 15-for-15 in save chances this season.
Ryan Roberts, Kelly Johnson, Chris Young and Juan Miranda all had two hits for Arizona.
The only real negative for the D-backs was their spotty play in the field committing two errors, but Gerardo Parra made a spectacular falling catch in the seventh inning that prevented the tying run from scoring.
Arizona(27-24) continues their series against the Astros tomorrow being only 1.5 games back of division leader San Francisco.
