After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the
box score and provide you with instant analysis. So it’s
time to go Inside the Box for June 1, 2011: Diamondbacks 6, Marlins 5
The Good:
Starter Daniel Hudson was knocked around for four runs over the first three innings, then went the next four without allowing anything else. Ryan Roberts hit his eighth home run of the year and Justin Upton had the game winning RBI with two outs in the ninth.
The Bad:
Besides Hudson’s early struggles, the Diamondbacks had trouble getting to Marlins starter Javier Vazquez. The former D-back shut down the home team’s bats for five innings, forcing Arizona to play from behind most of the night.
The Funky:
Called upon to close the game down after Arizona took the lead in the eighth, J.J. Putz saw John Buck send a pitch to right field for the game-tying home run. It was Putz’s first blown save of the season and first as a Diamondback.
