D-backs trading big for star starter?

If the Diamondbacks are going to trade for a pitcher, they need to go big or go back to the dugout. At least that’s what John Gambadoro says.
“This team is done with the John Garlands and the Doug Davises of the world,” Sports 620 KTAR’s Gambadoro said on Thursday’s Gambo and Ash. “They don’t want that middle-tier guy. If you’re going to make a trade, you better go out and get a bona fide star.”
Gambo has his eye on Seattle starter Felix Hernandez. The Mariners standout is 6-4 this season with a 3.04 ERA.
But Gambo’s better half and co-host, Mark Asher, thinks a star pitcher could come at too high of a price.
“The only problem with that is what are you giving up to get Felix Hernandez?” Ash asked.
A good question. Gambo thinks it will take at least three top prospects for the D-backs to nab Hernandez.
The last time the D-backs emptied the farm for a pitcher, they ended up with Dan Haren. He only made it for a couple seasons with the team before moving on to the Angels.
The D-backs need to ask themselves if pitching is the biggest priority, and if it is, go for the right person but be cautious about what they hand over.
