When Esmerling Vasquez hit Nationals second baseman Danny Espinosa in the top of the 8th inning Sunday, both he and manager Kirk Gibson were ejected. A warning had been issued to both clubs earlier in the game, meaning if an umpire felt a pitcher threw at a hitter he and his skipper would be kicked out.
Tuesday both were suspended.
Gibson, who will miss Tuesday’s game against the Pirates, will only miss one game. Vasquez, who received a three-game suspension as well as an undisclosed fine, elected to appeal and will be eligible to pitch Tuesday night.
