After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the
box score and provide you with instant analysis. So it’s
time to go Inside the Box for June 9, 2011: Diamondbacks 2, Pirates 0
The Good:
Pitcher Micah Owings threw two innings out of the bullpen after Josh Collmenter was pulled after just five innings. Joe Paterson set him up, but Owings closed the door on the Pirates, allowing only one hit and striking out four. He also helped his cause with an eighth inning single. He was brought in by Chris Young’s homer to left for the only runs of the game.
The Bad:
After an offensive surge that saw the D-backs climb to the top of the NL West, the hits have been few and far between in Pittsburgh and Thursday was no different. Four of the D-backs who started the game did not get a hit. At least the hit-less Stephen Drew walked one time.
The Funky:
Despite Thursday’s win, the D-backs still lost the series to the Pirates. The last time they lost a series was when they were swept by the Giants on May 10-12.
