D-backs analyst thinks team needs to add depth

Many believe the Diamondbacks hot start is a fluke and the team will falter in the summer, but others believe productive trade deadline deals can propel Arizona to the National League West crown.

It is no secret that the Diamondbacks would like to add some pitching and some power to their lineup and the team’s radio analyst, Tom Candiotti, thinks a third baseman and a few pitchers would greatly benefit the team.

“There’s a couple places where you would really like to see an upgrade,” Candiotti told Sports 620 KTAR’s Doug and Wolf. “I’m not sure if we have the depth yet.”

The Diamondbacks added a lot of quality arms in the MLB draft, but those pitchers may not be ready in time for the stretch run. Even if they are, there is no way of predicting how they will fare in the pressure of a pennant race.

“I know we had an unbelievable draft, but I’m not quite sure if we have enough guys who can step up and fill in the void if someone goes down,” Candiotti said. “If we stay healthy and the bullpen stays healthy then I think we can challenge.”

Although the defending division and World Series Champion San Francisco Giants are currently leading the N.L. West, Candiotti does not think the Diamondbacks need to worry.

“The Giants really don’t scare me at all,” Candiotti said. “I know they have a good pitching staff, but their offense is not very good.”

While the Giants offense may not be the most potent in baseball, their pitching staff is among the best and they are certainly a threat.

San Francisco has been battling injuries as of late, but they are still the defending champions and you can not write them off just yet.

However, if the Diamondbacks add a few pieces, they might be able to steal the division.
