ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

Sky’s the limit for Upton

Jun 17, 2011, 5:59 PM | Updated: 7:22 pm

Justin Upton did something he had never done before in the Diamondbacks 3-2 win over the Giants on Thursday.

Upton hit his first career walk-off home run, helping the D-backs avoid a sweep at the hands of the former World Champions.

“He is so on fire,” Ron Wolfley said on Sports 620 KTAR’s Doug and Wolf. “He is shredding the ball right now. The ball is coming across like a beach ball. He’s finally got over the hump so to speak.”

Upton, who is hitting .291 with 12 home runs and 35 RBI, has always been a talented player. However, this is his third walk-off hit in 2011 as the young outfielder is taking his game to new levels.

“The sky could be the limit for grasshopper Upton,” Wolfley said.

The 23-year-old Upton is hitting .433 over the last seven days and is hitting .379 in the month of June.

While Upton will not hit over .400 for the rest of the season, the fact that he is raising his batting average and coming through in the clutch is certainly a welcome site for a team that plays a lot of close games and is in a close divisional race.
