After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the
box score and provide you with instant analysis. So it’s
time to go Inside the Box for June 18, 2011: White Sox 8, Diamondbacks 2
The Good:
An eighth inning rally showed the White Sox what the D-backs could do, thought it ended up falling far short of what they needed. Trailing 8-0, the D-backs managed to load the bases and shake up the White Sox bullpen. The D-backs led off with some solid hitting from Parra and Roberts.
Unfortunately, the D-backs could only muster two runs out of the inning, falling far short of the eight runs needed to tie the game.
The Bad:
Josh Collmenter certainly didn’t have his best outing, but reliever Esmerling Vasquez proved to be the unexpected blow-up in the D-backs line-up. In the top of the eighth, in just one-third of an inning, Vasquez gave up three hits and four earned runs (five total runs). The game was close and the D-backs had a shot until he walked out of the bullpen.
The Funky:
Justin Upton went three-for-four today and saw his average creep over .300. He has raised his batting average 60 points in his last 21 games.
