Steelers’ Chase Claypool surprises fan suffering from dementia with jersey

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie Chase Claypool is already making headlines in his first NFL season.

Through seven games, the rookie wideout paces undefeated Pittsburgh in receiving yards (375), touchdowns (5) and average yards per reception (16.3). He’s had a total of seven plays of at least 20 yards.

But what he’s doing off the field for Steeler Nation is just as impressive.

When Claypool got word from a lifelong Steelers fan’s son that his dad Jimmy needed a pick-me-up after being diagnosed with dementia, the wide receiver was quick to lend a hand. Claypool didn’t just respond to the video with well wishes, he went above and beyond.

“This is my daddy, he is 76 years old and has just been diagnosed with dementia,” the video posted on Tik Tok said. “He is my best friend and his the biggest Steeler fan in the world. Dad is from Pittsburgh and hasn’t been home in forever.

“He has always been able to tell you every player on the team. Now he can’t remember who’s on the team every week and it’s so sad to see his memory fade.”

Claypool took it upon himself to make sure the lifelong Steeler fan had a reminder who was on the team this season and that Pittsburgh was behind him.

“Jimmy, thank you for being a lifelong Steelers fan!!” Claypool wrote on his No. 11 jersey.

Not only did Claypool sign his jersey, the rookie went a step further, shipping said jersey himself to ensure it went to the right person.

It’s safe to say, the special delivery made for a special moment for Jimmy and his family.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you No. 11,” Jimmy said. “I still watch you guys play. Can’t remember all that goes on yet, but by God I remember what goes on when you win.”
