Doug & Wolf power poll, Week 9: Pittsburgh Steelers run the board

Welcome to Week 9 of the NFL season. Just under half of the league year remains.

As for the undefeated teams in the league, there’s only one in the Pittsburgh Steelers.

And surprise, they ran the Doug & Wolf power poll table this week. It marks just the third time this season that Ron Wolfley, Doug Franz and Paul Calvisi all selected the same No. 1 team.

It’s also the first time this year that the three agreed on a unanimous No. 1 not named the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been a balanced football team through the first seven games of their season. Defensively, the unit ranks first in the NFL in sacks (30) and third in interceptions (10).

On the other side of the football, the Ben Roethlisberger-led offense ranks fifth in the league in points scored with 211. Speaking of Big Ben, the signal caller’s total yardage through the air (1,628) is in the bottom half of the NFL, but he’s made up for it with his touchdown rate. Roethlisberger is currently tied for seventh in the league with 15 scores.

Adding to the Steelers’ successes through eight weeks is the fact that they knocked off the then-undefeated Tennessee Titans before handing the Baltimore Ravens an L last Sunday. Both games were on the road for Pittsburgh.

But while the Steelers represent the last unblemished team, there’s a handful of contenders right on their tails, most notably the Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
